Disappearance of spurious states in analog associative memories.

We show that symmetric n-mixture states, when they exist, are almost never stable in autoassociative networks with threshold-linear units. Only with a binary coding scheme, we could find a limited region of the parameter space in which either 2-mixture or 3-mixture states are stable attractors of the dynamics.

Invariant pattern recognition using analog recurrent associative memories

A novel invariant pattern recognition approach is proposed based on a special gradient-type recurrent analog associative memory. The system exhibits stable equilibrium points in predefined positions specified by feature vectors extracted from the training set, while invariance to geometrical transformations is inferred by using the tangent distance. Experimental results for handwritten characte...

Associative Memories in Medical Diagnostic

Neural networks are used as associative memories to build an expert system for diagnostic. Similarly to expert systems implemented using symbolic manipulation, here the knowledge is introduced by a knowledge engineer using a collection of known cases. Fuzzy sets are used as interpretation for connection values and/or excitation state of units. The main result is that the proposed neural network...

Bipolar spectral associative memories

Nonlinear spectral associative memories are proposed as quantized frequency domain formulations of nonlinear, recurrent associative memories in which volatile network attractors are instantiated by attractor waves. In contrast to conventional associative memories, attractors encoded in the frequency domain by convolution may be viewed as volatile online inputs, rather than nonvolatile, off-line...

Reasoning with Associative Memories

Reasoning is, undoubtedly, an important biological activity. Emerged at some point of biological evolution, reasoning is a neural function with a decisive role for the kind of life style that the human beings have developed. The knowledge of the external world, in fact one of the highlights of human culture, is a direct consequence of the capacity of reasoning. Let me quote some of Alfred Lotka...
